K'HAKE HALF - 21.1 km

Brought to you by Diamonds on Seddon in Waihi

K'HAKE HALF COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Half Marathon is a classic, and it’s a great course to set your off-road PB.

Run or walk from Paeroa to Waihi on the most scenic and varied section of the Hauraki Rail Trail. The course runs alongside the Ohinemuri River, crossing bridges and passing through a one km long train tunnel in the spectacular Karangahake Gorge. You’ll soon arrive at the halfway point at Victoria Battery, Waikino then follow the beautiful river-side trail all the way upstream to the finish line at Waihi Station.

The course only rises 100 m over its entire length, with the first half being essentially flat and the second half a bit more rolling with a couple of short pinches to challenge your average pace.

COURSE MEASUREMENT

The Half Marathon course has been measured in accordance with the accepted measurement standards of AIMS and the IAAF and is supported by the NZ 100 Marathon Club.

Note: Your gps may produce a different result due to passing through the narrow Karangahake Gorge and other built-in gps inaccuracies.

MORE ABOUT YOUR RACE

AID STATIONS

There are 2 aid stations on the Half Marathon course. They are at Waikino (12 km), and with 4.5 km to go. See course map.

The aid station 4.5 km from the finish is not accessible to support crews or the public.

PLEASE NOTE: WE'RE A CUPLESS EVENT

Cups will not be provided at the aid station. Please BYO cup/bottle or carry your own nutrition/hydration requirements to help us reduce our event waste.

You should prepare to be self-sufficient for the duration of the race. The aid station will have some fruit, water, and electrolyte drink available to help with your race nutrition, however this should be considered a top-up only, and you shouldn't rely on it for your full race energy or hydration needs.

GEAR BAG DROP

If you have some gear you'd like to discard and leave at the start line, then pick up again at the finish line, that's cool. We'll have a gear drop area at the start line and we'll happily transport your stuff to the finish line/event HQ for you. Be sure to clearly mark your gear bag so it doesn't get picked up by somebody else by mistake.

21 k RUN/WALK TRANSPORT SERVICE

We offer a bus service from the finish in Waihi, back to the start line in Paeroa after your event. It's just $20 per seat and the van will run about hourly throughout the day. Book your seat at the time of entry by just checking the tick boxes. There are limited seats per trip so bookings are essential.

BUSES TO THE START LINE

There are no buses taking competitors to the start line in Paeroa. There is ample parking near the start line and a bus service to get you back to your vehicle after the race. This bus service needs to be booked.
