2023 EVENT CANCELLED — ENTRIES CLOSED
2023 Trail Trilogy Cancellation Notice
You may be aware that the Department of Conservation recently announced that the Kauri disease pathogen has been found in the Kaimai Ranges. (https://www.doc.govt.nz/news/media-releases/2023-media-releases/kauri-disease-pathogen-found-in-kaimai-ranges). Yesterday we were notified of the possibility that our DoC Concession for the Trail Trilogy could be revoked as their investigations regarding the spread of the pathogen continue. The event passes through DoC managed land in the Karangahake/Waikino area, for which we need a Concession.
Our team held an urgent meeting to discuss the ramifications for the 2023 Trail Trilogy, and we are of the belief that by September 24th there is a high degree of risk that access to these areas for events will be unavailable. The areas are essential for us to run a successful event.
Given this level of risk and uncertainty over the next few months, we have deemed that it will not be possible for us to run a successful event in 2023. It would also be wrong of us to continue to accept entries knowing that there is a high likelihood that the event would not be able to go ahead. Sadly, this has lead us to have to make the tough decision to cancel this year’s race.
Please note that everyone who has already entered will have their entries rolled over to the next event, which will be held on Sunday, September 8th, 2024.
We can assure you that we looked at all alternatives to avoid this cancellation, but none were workable, viable or able to offer the uncompromised, quality event that you would expect.
We would like to say a special thanks to those of you who have already entered; we really do appreciate you supporting our event. We were looking forward to a great one this year. We also acknowledge that you have been putting in the hard yards to get yourself fit and ready to race, and it's such a shame to not be able to use it at the Trail Trilogy.
We offer our sincere apologies for any inconvenience that this decision creates, and we look forward to an uncompromised event in 2024. Until then, stay safe and keep on running.
Nga mihi nui.
Mark, Ali, Buttz, and the Trail Trilogy Team
